Project: Logistics Planning and Expansion at Turck

How can the now existing site get ready for the logistics requirements of the next ten years? Unitechnik experts consulted with the Turck automation experts to answer this question. The background: The company wants to centralize its warehousing facilities and therefore needs additional capacities in the central distribution center in Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany).

Unitechnik's newly developed logistics concept will accommodate twice as many bin spaces than before. This solution involves the restructuring of the material flow. Among other improvements in the new structure, room will become available for the integration of a new automated three-aisle small parts storage unit. In the future, the existing small parts storage unit will supply replenishment for the new warehouse. A lifting beam system for the temporary storage of pre-picked bins will also be part of the expansion. The short cycle times allow exceptionally fast access to the stored items. Additional workplaces in the incoming and outgoing goods departments and for the order picking crew will also be part of the solution.

Unitechnik will perform all parts of the construction work in smooth succession during regular operations. According to plan, the construction work will be completed in May 2018. All in all, the expansion will ensure smooth operations at the Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany) site for the coming ten years. Moreover, we are creating the basis for possibly required future expansions.
