Unitechnik equips recently opened Testo Calibration Factory

Testo Industrial Services opened its new "Calibration Factory" in Kirchzarten in October 2021. The entire intralogistics processes for the calibration site of the leading calibration service provider come from Unitechnik Systems GmbH. The system integrator has implemented automated technologies for faster material flow and high process reliability, including an automated small parts warehouse with shuttle system.

200 new workstations on a floor space of around 4,200 square meters: with the new Calibration Factory, Testo Industrial Services GmbH has made the largest investment in the company's history. The subsidiary of Testo SE & Co. KGaA is the leading metrology service provider in Germany and has been calibrating measuring instruments for a large customer base for over 20 years.

Laboratories, offices and logistics combined
Although the Calibration Factory has been in operation since July 26, 2021, it was only officially opened in October. The new building combines laboratories, storage and offices in one location. "The Calibration Factory is the largest investment Testo Industrial Services has made in its history and the cornerstone for further growth. We are transferring the service of calibration, a classic laboratory activity, to an industrial manufacturing environment. This is how proven quality meets efficiency," said Raimund Föhrenbacher, Managing Director of Testo Industrial Services GmbH, at the opening. In order to align the company's processes more efficiently, several calibration laboratories, a large order processing department and the logistics areas, among others, were combined in the new building. The focus of the motto "Quality meets efficiency" was on automation and digitalization.

As part of the intelligent design of the material flow, Unitechnik Systems GmbH was heavily involved in the project. The high-bay warehouse developed by the automation expert can manage more than 7,000 containers with test equipment with the help of a shuttle system. The planning of the container conveyor technology and the UniWare warehouse management software also come from the supplier from Wiehl. One unusual challenge was to integrate the intralogistics into the new building as discreetly and space-savingly as possible so as not to give the new company building a factory character.
